The dress of the Cocker spaniel usually
does not require a complex care nor frequent, however certain
environmental circumstances and the presence of particularly abundant
fringes oblige to carry out a regular servicing.
Servicing.
It
is carried out all the seven, eight days, by brushing the dress using a
carding brush. One finishes while passing the comb on all the fringed
zones and by disentangling the possible nodes.
Trimming.
It is carried out three or
four times per annum and at the approach of an exposure. After having
brushed the dress, one withdraws with the knife all the wicks of dead
or too corrugated hairs making the profile higher of the subject linear
(of cranium, often covered of an abundant sleeping bag, with the point
of the tail). One makes in the same way then at the base of the ear
(intern and external), on each side of the neck and on the shoulders.
One then clearly shortens with the mower the hair on the mouth, then
one carries out a connection on the cheeks and on each side of the
neck: it is not a question here to shorten the surface layer of the
dress but simply to make it less bulky; one will thus use of the
scissors with great prudence, while intervening at the base of the hair
and upwards. This action simply aims at thinning the dress to give
elegance to the neck without however depriving it of its robust and
harmonious aspect. One also mows the lower part of the tail (crossed)
and the anal and genital zone, then one practises a depilation of
connection to avoid the too obvious scales. The not cut tail preserves
all its fringes. One equalizes with the right scissors the hairs
between the plantar bearings and one emphasizes the roundness of the
foot. If the adult cocker spaniel presents too long fringes which weigh
down its silhouette and give him a neglected aspect, one equalizes with
the right scissors sculpteurs(ou) all the lower profile (breast piece,
trunk and tail if it is whole).
Bath.
Not to deteriorate the
typical texture of her dress nor to be likely to impoverish its under
hair, one prevents too often washing the Cocker spaniel, in particular
if its hair is very fine or slightly corrugated. On the other hand, one
can more often wash the longest fringes. In all the cases, the use of a
good nutritive balsam is recommended. The bath is recommended for the
period of moult and with the approach of an exposure.
Touch final.
It considers in a simple
brushing, in the direction of the hair, with the carding brush then
with the semi-hard silk brush, and one finishes while combing
soignesement the fringed zones. During these operations, one recommends
to vaporize a conditioner on all peeling.
